RAM Viaggi
RAM Viaggi is a small Tour Operator which deals exclusively with “fair” and “responsible” tourism – holidays which always have a deep link with local people.
Born experimentally in 1991, it specializes in Asian destinations (Indian region, Tibetan areas, south east Asia, Middle East, and extended also to the Far East), but also in Italian ones.
All texts on this website are in Italian, but all our guides speak English, many also Spanish and French, so if you are interested you are welcome to write us for more details.
RAM Viaggi has been among the first to promote this kind of “encounter” trips in Europe (initially under the umbrella of RAM Association, today its “sister” company); today they call them also experiences, we do it since 3 decades. It is also a founding member of the Italian Association for Responsible Tourism (AITR).

RAM Viaggi/ Criteria and rules for all trips
We work hard to apply, in all trips, four distinctive guidelines:

1. A human approach (preparatory meetings before leaving, that after coronavirus outbreak took a shape from remote; informal feedback procedures from both participants and organizers during and after the trip; meetings with local testimonials/ local guides/ local communities/ local ngos during the trip)

2. An economic treatment that we want fairer than usual: we take local guides, local small scale accommodation, local food, local transports; the price of every trip includes a slice (from 60 to 100 euro per person) to be left to a local development project, which is suggested by RAM beforehand, and it is visited during the trip itself. From the cultural point of view, our tours have generally a meaning, a leit-motif, in order to deepen some local social issue that we deem relevant.

3. An approach to have enough time on our side to understand better places and situations. As time is often our tyrant, if the trip is short we choose to see less destinations, but deepening them as much as possible.

4. An environmental approach with less contradictions as possible: we strive to choose hotels adopting solar energy, we tell clients to take care about our garbage, showers, behaviours, etcetera. We promote compensations for flights, but especially we fly as less as possible – whenever available taking a train.

Our destinations
We have a number of trips to Asia (with many itineraries options), all lasting between one and three weeks. Destinations are Iran, Oman, India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Burma (Myanmar), Indonesia, Japan. We also have Capo Verde in Africa and Cuba in the Caribbean. Then comes Italy, where our trips are shorter (long weekends, weeks), while destinations are many – and for each one we work with local correspondents, generally local people. These trips are meant for foreigners, better if English speaking, but also for italians. We offer trips for schools too, generally visiting Italian destinations, with the same style of our tours for adults.
